These pieces are referred to as Doctor's Ladies because that
is who traditionally used them. In a culture where women do not draw
attention to their bodies, this was a tool doctor's had to ascertain just where
their clients problems were. The patient would show the doctor where their
problem was by pointing to a corresponding location on the figure.
